Akhemetov Rinat Leonidovych
Businessman and former People's Deputy of Ukraine
Son-in-law of Kuchma, billionaire and 'philanthropist' whose Interpipe pays millions of rubles to the Russian Federation's budget
Born on December 14, 1960, in Kyiv. Candidate of Technical Sciences. Son-in-law of the second President of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma (husband of Olena Pinchuk). People's Deputy of Ukraine of the VII and VIII convocations. Owner of EastOne Group, pipe and wheel company Interpipe, media group StarLightMedia (STB, ICTV, "Novyi Kanal"). Founder of PinchukArtCentre and YOUkraine Forum. Wealth estimated at $1.4–2 billion (Forbes). Acquired business assets in the 2000s while his father-in-law Kuchma was president — including the metallurgical Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant through a series of controversial deals.
Interpipe pays rubles to Russia, faces U.S. anti-dumping tariffs, and non-public visits to Zelensky’s Presidential Office
In 2022, Interpipe paid 36 million rubles in taxes to the Russian budget and continued to earn profits in the aggressor country. In the first 5 months of 2019, the company exported pipes and wheels to Russia worth over 1.36 billion UAH — despite Russian sanctions against Pinchuk himself, which did not affect his business. The U.S. revoked the agreement to end anti-dumping investigations on Interpipe pipes and imposed anti-dumping duties. "Schemes" recorded that Pinchuk, along with his father-in-law Kuchma, visited the Presidential Office of Zelensky in non-public meetings — the oligarch had no official grounds for meetings there. In February 2024, he left the list of beneficiaries of Tavt Media. No criminal proceedings have been initiated against him personally.
