Member of the Board of Sense Bank
Corporate banker from Pivdenny, appointed amid a scandal
Andriy Sokolov is a member of the board of Sense Bank, responsible for corporate business. He was appointed on July 22, 2023, upon the proposal of the Ministry of Finance simultaneously with the nationalization of the bank. From 2020 to 2023, he served as Deputy Director of the Corporate Business Department at Pivdenny Bank, and prior to that, since late 2017, also worked at Pivdenny Bank. Pivdenny Bank is traditionally associated with the Odesa business environment and has repeatedly come under the scrutiny of regulators due to non-transparent lending practices.
Appointment without competition amid the "Mindich Tapes"
According to the transcripts of the "Mindich Tapes," the figures involved in the NABU case discussed the appointment of board members and the supervisory board of Sense Bank even before the government made the corresponding decision and it was approved by the National Bank of Ukraine. At the same time, those involved talked about their "quotas" on the state bank's council, which was supposed to ensure their control over the financial institution's decisions. Sokolov is part of the board formed precisely during this period — whose appointment is the subject of the parliamentary Temporary Investigative Commission's investigation.
