The SBU detained an FSB female killer in Kyiv who was preparing an assassination attempt on the leader of one of Ukraine’s public organizations

The counterintelligence branch of the Security Service prevented another high-profile murder that the Russian FSB had ordered to take place in Ukraine. As a result of a special operation in Kyiv, an agent of the Russian Federation was detained who had been assigned to eliminate a Russian opposition figure who currently heads one of the nationwide public organizations in Ukraine.

The investigation found that the killer planned to shoot the activist from a combat pistol from an ambush near one of the capital’s gyms where he works as a kickboxing coach.

In this way, Russia hoped to kill the Russian opposition figure who has been fighting for Ukraine since 2022 — first in the Kyiv region, and then on the Eastern front.

SBU officers acted preemptively and detained the suspect near the sports complex while she was conducting reconnaissance of the area to choose a firing position for the assassination.

According to the case materials, the FSB’s assignment was carried out by an unemployed resident of temporarily occupied Melitopol who had been recruited by the enemy.

It was established that Russian intelligence officers recruited the woman into cooperation in exchange for “closing” a case concerning illegal drug possession.

The recruited agent completed a training course at a local FSB “branch,” where she was taught tradecraft, land navigation, and how to shoot firearms.

After finishing training, the killer was moved to Zhytomyr via transit through Belarus, and then she arrived in Kyiv.

In the capital, the suspect regularly changed hotel addresses. Also, based on the room number, she left a mark on the door to detect the possible presence of outsiders in the premises.

Later the agent received from her Russian handler the coordinates of a stash in a forest-park area of the capital, where she collected a pistol with ammunition.

SBU counterintelligence officers discovered the weapon during a search of the detained woman’s hotel room. In addition, a smartphone from which she contacted the FSB handler was seized. The Security Service has already identified that handler.

SBU investigators have notified the agent of suspicion under part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).

The perpetrator is being held in custody without the right to post bail. She faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The special operation was carried out by SBU officers in Zhytomyr region under the coordination of the SBU Counterintelligence Department and with procedural oversight by the regional prosecutor’s office.
