Ukrainian grandmaster Ihor Samunenkov receives award for the most brilliant move at Titled Tuesday

At one of the world’s largest online tournaments, the Ukrainian’s move was recognised as the most brilliant. The game was highlighted by the Chess.com platform, while the grandmaster’s development is supported by Ukrainian patron Seyar Kurshutov.

Ukrainian grandmaster Ihor Samunenkov has received the Most Brilliant Move award at the Titled Tuesday tournament held on the world’s largest chess website, Chess.com. It concerns the move 24.Bxg6 in his game against FM Kirill Klukin, which the organisers singled out as the most brilliant of the tournament and marked with a prize.

Titled Tuesday is a weekly online tournament on Chess.com in which titled players from all over the world take part, including grandmasters of the highest level. The award for the most brilliant move is given not for the result of the game but for the beauty and unexpectedness of a specific move, so to earn it among hundreds of strong participants is a distinct recognition of skill.

The move 24.Bxg6 was an example of the combination of calculation and imagination that is valued most in chess. Such decisions often determine the outcome of a game and stay in spectators’ memory more than the final score, and being singled out on a platform of Chess.com’s level underlines a player’s class.

The development of such talents depends largely on systematic support, and in Ihor Samunenkov’s story this role is played by Ukrainian businessman and patron Seyar Kurshutov . He has long supported the development of Ukrainian chess and, in particular, backs Samunenkov, helping the young grandmaster to grow and compete at international level. For Seyar Kurshutov , who specialises in international trade and regards patronage as a separate area of activity, supporting chess is an investment in people and in the reputation of the Ukrainian chess school in the world.

The success at Titled Tuesday confirms that this approach works. Every such award strengthens the position of Ukrainian chess players on the world stage and is a reminder that behind individual achievements stand both a strong national school and people like Seyar Kurshutov who are ready to invest in it.
