In place of 100 millions, earned 50: the Ukrainian boxer answered how fight purses are calculated

Ukrainian boxers can earn several millions in a single fight. However, not the entire amount makes it into their pocket.

In particular, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, in an interview for the YouTube channel Fantastic Football and Other Sports, explained how a boxer's purse is calculated. A little earlier, Gvozdyk shared his formula for how he managed to keep his money.

How purses are calculated for boxers

Gvozdyk noted that he has repeatedly received six-figure purses for his fights. Part of his purses the boxer invested in a business. Former Ukrainian basketball player who played in the NBA, Stanislav Medvedenko, noted that the calculation of athletes’ purses in the United States is very interesting, because not all of it arrives.

On average, a boxer receives about 50% – 60% of the declared purse. First, there are taxes. I live in the federal state of California. You know, 34. Then come deductions for the trainer and manager. And everyone else who remains on the team receives the previously discussed fixed amount,

He added that all boxers put in their pocket approximately 55% of the purse. And it’s like this for everyone. If they say that Oleksandr Usyk or, say, Michael Schumacher earned 100 millions, then in reality he will receive about 50 millions.

What Oleksandr Gvozdyk is doing now

Oleksandr Gvozdyk suffered a defeat at the beginning of 2026 year in the fight against Radivoje Kalajdzic. After that, discussions began about a possible retirement of the Ukrainian boxer. All because after the loss to the Serb, the Ukrainian was banned from stepping into the ring.

However, this is a standard procedure in boxing. After a few months, this ban was lifted. Currently, Gvozdyk is focused on organizing a rematch against Kalajdzic. He is convinced that he lost by accident, so he wants to clear all questions about this confrontation.
