Reports in Russia of the "largest" drone attack by Ukraine on Yaroslavl region; oil refinery on fire

In Yaroslavl, a fire broke out at the Yaroslavnaftoorgsintez oil refinery, owned by Slavneft, after an attack by Ukrainian drones.

This is reported by Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channels Supernova+ and Exilenova+, as well as the outlet Astra. They cite photos and videos from eyewitnesses showing several plumes of smoke.

Yaroslavl region Governor Mikhail Evraev reported on the night of 6 August that the region was attacked by Ukrainian drones. In response to the strike, traffic on the road leaving Yaroslavl toward Moscow was halted. As a result, the routes of several buses were changed.

In the morning, Evraev said that in the Yaroslavl region they repelled "the largest attack of enemy drones": electronic warfare forces and air defenses allegedly destroyed 88 drones.

As a result of the attack, a private house burned down, window panes were blown out in several apartment buildings, and cars were damaged. Evraev did not specify exactly where. According to him, there are no deaths or injuries. He did not explain the large fires whose smoke is visible over Yaroslavl.

Yaroslavnaftoorgsintez (Slavneft-YANOS) is the fifth-largest oil refinery in Russia by capacity. Since the beginning of 2026 this year, Ukraine has attacked this facility at least six times.

Ukrainian drones regularly strike Russian oil refineries. Because of the attacks, facilities partially or completely suspend operations, which, among other things, leads to fuel shortages and rising prices.
