Bureaucratic Absurdity or Business Motives: Removed Head of Odesa BEEU Unit Serhii Muntyan Raised a Scandal over a Comma in the Papers

The legend of Odesa’s economic “detective,” Serhii Muntyan—whose rapid operations are known from the Orlivka customs post all the way to the “7 kilometer” market, and in whose honor they’re already planning to name some street in the Southern Palmyra—does not agree with his dismissal as head of the Odesa regional BEEU unit and is ready to challenge not only smugglers and conversion schemes but the entire system.

Being a declared legal fundamentalist, Serhii Mykolayovych found serious flaws in the document notifying him of his dismissal, which he pointed out to BEE director Oleksandr Tsyvinskyi.

Muntyan’s main complaint is the presence in the notification document, besides himself, of the surname of the also-dismissed head of the Chernivtsi BEEU unit, Oleh Borysenko.

(And indeed, who came up with putting such surnames side by side)

Muntyan also disagrees with the electronic signature of the official who signed the document sent to him for acknowledgment.

The impression is that Serhii Mykolayovych has taken the path of yet another Odesa legend, but this time at the customs service—Denys Pudryk—and will still compete to preserve his place in the system fighting for the country’s economic interests.

And besides—that’s a very profitable business.

So smugglers and converters shouldn’t celebrate yet.

You can’t take Muntyan down that easily!
