On Zhytomyr region, Russia attacked German Kromberg&Schubert plant: its operations halted – Center for Investigative Journalism

Russian forces on the night of 9 August attacked a plant of the German company Kromberg&Schubert in Zhytomyr region, which manufactures cable harnesses for Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi vehicles. The plant’s equipment and production facilities sustained significant damage and extensive destruction. The factory has suspended operations indefinitely.

This is stated in an official statement from the company’s management on Facebook.

“Due to the significant level of damage, the company is forced to temporarily suspend operations for an indefinite period. Possible timelines for resuming activity will become clear after the completion of the technical assessment and determination of the full scope of the necessary restoration work,” the statement said.

The company emphasized that it is a civilian manufacturing enterprise with 100% German investment, which has been operating in the Zhytomyr region for 11 years and provides jobs for about 3500 people.

According to the information, no employees were injured as a result of the attack.

In turn, the head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Bunechko, reported that the consequences of the enemy attack have been localized by the State Emergency Service, and an investigative-operational group of law enforcement agencies is working on site.

“The regional military administration, together with local self-government bodies, is already working on finding possible ways to assist the strategic investor. We are interested in preserving the company’s operations, supporting its staff, and creating conditions for the fastest possible recovery,” Bunechko wrote on Telegram.

Kromberg&Schubert began its operations in Ukraine in the city of Lutsk in 2004. It expanded into Zhytomyr region in 2015, when it implemented an investment project to build a plant for the production of electrical and optical equipment with a total value of EUR30 million. It was noted that the plant’s products are supplied to vehicle manufacturers including Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, and others.

The multinational company Kromberg&Schubert, which will turn 125 years old in 2027, is a supplier in the automotive industry. It has production in many countries around the world at more than 40 locations and employs over 50 thousand employees.
