Most Ukrainians Believe in Victory, But Not This Year — Survey Results

In general, 1808 people participated in the survey. The vast majority of Ukrainians (82%) believe that Ukraine will win in the war against Russia. This is shown by the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology over 16–31 July 2026 of the year.

59% think that Ukraine will unconditionally defeat Russia in the war. Another 23% think that Ukraine will achieve victory sooner.

16% have not decided on an answer. And only 7% believe that Russia will win the war.

When the war in Ukraine will end

At the same time, Ukrainians are skeptical that the war in Ukraine will end very soon: 5% think this could happen in the coming weeks, by the end of summer 17% hope for an end to the war in autumn–winter 2026 of the year. Another 13% expect the war to end in the first half of 2027 year, and 39% think it will happen in the second half of 2027 year or later.

Also, sociologists note a large share of respondents (namely 26%), who could not answer this question. It is noted that this only underscores the fact that fewer Ukrainians believe the war will end soon.

It is noted that the survey was conducted using a mixed method. Half of the participants were surveyed by telephone interviews, and half by in-person interviews. In total, 1808 people took part in the survey.

Ukrainians’ attitude toward the end of the war

As a reminder, a previous KMIS survey showed that 61% of respondents are ready to endure the war in Ukraine for as long as it takes. It is noted that if from January to April this figure fell from 65% to 48%, then starting in April it almost returned to the previous level.
