Russia is preparing an information provocation involving Ukrainian prisoners of war, - CPD

Russia is preparing a new information campaign about prisoners of war, trying to convince the Western audience of supposedly better treatment of Ukrainians.

According to him, to carry out this campaign Russia has already allocated resources for the relevant media events. In particular, Ukrainian prisoners of war are being moved to more comfortable conditions in order to shoot propaganda stories. It is expected that the prepared materials will be distributed, including to Western audiences. Thus, Moscow wants to form a favorable idea for itself about how Ukrainian servicemen of war captives are treated. In addition, Russia plans to use Russians who have returned from Ukrainian captivity. They may be involved in spreading false claims about allegedly improper conditions of detention in Ukraine. "Propaganda and lies remain instruments in war and disinformation," emphasized Kovalenko. At the same time, Ukraine has repeatedly publicly shown the conditions of detention of Russian prisoners of war, in particular regarding food and daily life. Nevertheless, in the Russian Federation, according to the head of the CPD, they will continue to attempt to spread false information and distort the real picture.

Earlier, the Operational Coordinating Staff reported that Russian soldiers after exchanges increasingly surrender again into Ukrainian captivity. As of the end of July, there were already 20. The staff noted that some of them consciously choose captivity over returning to combat. Each such serviceman adds to Ukraine's exchange fund and increases opportunities to return Ukrainian defenders.
