Shelters, evacuation, and automated alerts: safety measures are being tightened at gas stations in Kyiv region

Due to security challenges of the war, stricter protection measures are planned at gas stations in the Kyiv region. In particular, the introduction of automated alert systems, new evacuation protocols during air alarms, and the construction of shelters near gas stations are being prepared.

As reported by Delo.ua, this was announced by the head of Kyiv Oblast State Administration, Tymur Tkachenko.

According to him, a substantive meeting took place in the region to strengthen protection of gas filling stations with the participation of representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Police, the State Emergency Service, and market operators.

Regional authorities together with market operators plan to work on the issue of creating protective structures near gas stations.

The head of the OSA stressed that attention will be focused on those gas stations located far from existing shelters, so dialogue and practical work in this direction will be significantly intensified.

"Our joint task is to enhance the safety of the stay of workers and visitors at gas stations in Kyiv region in light of the challenges dictated by the war," the Kyiv Oblast governor emphasized.

Thanks to constructive dialogue with the military, law enforcement, and business, it was possible to determine concrete initial steps.

First of all, the mandatory introduction of automated alert systems and clear staff response protocols at air-raid signals.

Another important block of issues is the clearing of territories around fueling complexes to ensure unhindered access for emergency services.

"The next issue is to clear gas stations of abandoned cars that clog evacuation routes, hinder access to hydrants, and obstruct passage of special equipment. Specific solutions to these questions will be raised at the next meeting of the Kyiv region Defense Council," Tkachenko noted.

As a reminder, in the first seven months 2026 year, Russian troops attacked 37 gas filling complexes of Naftogaz Group. Some damaged facilities were restored, but the rest suffered critical destruction and ceased operation.
