When the War Will End: Survey Shows Ukrainians' Expectations

Only one in five Ukrainians foresees an end to the war by the end of 2026, while significantly more citizens point to later dates.

According to sociologists, only 22% of Ukrainians expect the war to end by the end of 2026. Another 13% believe that fighting could end in the first half of 2027. At the same time, the largest share of respondents — 39% — expects the war to end in the second half of 2027 or even later. Another 26% could not decide on an answer. At the same time, the survey results show that Ukrainians do not see Russia as the side with the battlefield advantage. Only 7% of respondents said the situation favors the Russian Federation. By contrast, 39% believe that the advantage is currently on Ukraine’s side. Another 32% do not see an advantage for either side, and 22% could not answer. What other KMIS surveys show. Earlier KMIS also studied the level of Ukrainians’ trust in public figures. The highest scores belong to representatives of the military and defense sector: Valeriy Zaluzhnyi is trusted by 66% of respondents, Mykhailo Fedorov by 63%, Kyrylo Budanov by 61%. Volodymyr Zelensky is trusted by 56% of respondents.

Additionally, based on the results of the previous survey, six out of ten Ukrainians consider the transfer of all Donbas under Russian control in exchange for security guarantees to be categorically unacceptable. 33% of respondents are willing to take such a step, and compared with April, the share of those who permit such a scenario has decreased.
