Ukraine to Expand "Marriage Online." What Changes to Expect

The Government of Ukraine has expanded the experimental online marriage project using the mobile app of the Diia portal. This is stated in a release published 10 in August.

The government notes that the remote marriage service has already become one of the most in-demand digital services in the civil registry system. "If in 2025 the online registry recorded more than 30 thousand marriages (18,4 % of the total), then in the first half of 2026 year more than 30,4 thousand marriages were concluded — 40 % of all state marriage registrations," said the press service.

Such popularity of the service confirmed the need for its further development, so the government approved a resolution of the Ministry of Justice that ensures the continuity of implementing the experimental project and at the same time expands the service’s capabilities for citizens, the statement says.

The update provides:

expansion of the circle of persons who can use the "Online Marriage" service. The service will also be available to Ukrainian citizens whose previous marriage was terminated due to the death of one of the spouses;

introduction of accessibility mechanisms for people with hearing and/or speech impairments, which will allow them to use the service independently (by marking the appropriate box when submitting the application, a sign language interpreter will connect to the video conference);

introduction of international delivery of the state marriage certificate to 48 countries around the world in stages. This will simplify obtaining a confirming paper document for Ukrainians and promote the realization of their rights when receiving administrative, social and other services, including abroad.

The government explained that the new capabilities would be rolled out progressively by the end of 2026 year. In particular, international delivery of certificates will begin with neighboring states and later be expanded to European nations and the United States of America.
