Ottawa imposed sanctions on the company whose armored vehicles ended up with the Rosgvardiya

Canada has imposed sanctions on the defense company Streit Group, whose products were used by Russian security forces in the war against Ukraine.

This was announced on Monday, 10 August, by Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand.

Streit Group specializes in the production of armored vehicles and other military equipment. The Canadian Foreign Ministry stated that the sanctions were decided after receiving numerous reports of Streit Group’s armored vehicles being used by the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya), which is taking part in the war against Ukraine.

The Canadian government emphasized that the sanctions are intended to limit Streit Group’s ability to supply military technologies and equipment to Russia and thereby reduce the capabilities of the Russian military-industrial complex.

“Canada remains steadfast in its commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the Ukrainian people, who continue to defend their country and rights in the face of Russia’s brutal aggression,” the Canadian Foreign Ministry said.

Acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Zybiga welcomed Ottawa’s decision and thanked Canada for the imposed restrictions.

According to him, companies supplying technologies, equipment, or components to the Russian military-industrial complex effectively contribute to aggression against Ukraine and must be held accountable for it.

Earlier 10 August it became known that Austria’s State Security and Intelligence Service uncovered an international scheme to bypass EU sanctions. According to the Austrian side, a Vienna-based company supplied equipment used in the production of engines for Russian missiles and fighters.

Also in July, a court in Finland found a Finnish businessman Risto Riihimäki guilty of violating European sanctions. He was involved in exporting trucks and trailers to Russia and received 3 years and 8 months of imprisonment.
