Ukrainian Doroshchuk became European vice-champion in high jump (video)

The Ukrainian national team won the first medal at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, England. A silver in the high jump was brought to our team by Doroshchuk, aged 25 years, who in March became the world indoor champion in Toruń, Poland. The athlete from Kropyvnytskyi, in a duel with 12 competitors, cleared the heights of 218, 223, 227 and 230 cm from the first attempt, but failed to clear the bar at 232 cm. In the final protocol, Oleg yielded only to the legendary Italian, Olympic champion and now 4-time European champion Gianmarco Tamberi, whose daughter turned one that day. The bronze medalist of the European Championships was another Italian, Matteo Sioli (227 cm), who ended his title bid due to an injury. By the way, previously the highest achievement of the Ukrainian outdoors was the bronze at the European Championships-2024. Recall that last year Doroshchuk won the gold medal at the European indoor championships in Apeldoorn (Netherlands). By the way, on Saturday, 15 August, our high jumpers — Olympic champion and world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh and bronze medalist of the European Championships-2024 and Olympic-2024 Irina Gerashchenko — will compete for medals at the Birmingham European Championships, having easily cleared the qualifying height of 191 cm on the eve.
