"Didn't perform and also lost": Doroshchuk emotionally commented on his European Championships high jump medal

European silver medalist in the high jump Oleg Doroshchuk commented on his "silver" performance in Birmingham. The athlete was not completely satisfied with himself.

Doroshchuk remained the second Ukrainian high jumper after Andriy Protsenko to win more than one medal at the European Championships. In a comment to Suspilne Sport he shared his emotions about the performance.

How Oleg Doroshchuk assessed his performance at the European Championships in Birmingham

The Ukrainian expressed satisfaction with his physical shape but was disappointed by the defeat in the duel with Italian Gianmarco Tamberi.

"Right now I’m probably in one of the best shapes of my sporting life, but I didn’t perform at all and on top of that I lost. Right now I have one desire – to get back to training. There are still competitions; I want to set a personal best that I’m striving for,

" Doroshchuk said.

It should be noted that after clearing the height of 2.30 meters Oleg Doroshchuk was first and had gone without faults. However, when the bar was raised by another two centimeters Tamberi managed to clear it on his second attempt, while the Ukrainian squandered all three jumps.

So far our country has two medals, earned by Doroshchuk and hammer thrower Mykhailo Kokhan. In the overall medal standings our country shares the 16–17 place.

The Ukrainians’ haul could increase as soon as this evening, when the women’s high jump competition takes place. Among the 12 best in the qualification there were places for Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Iryna Herashchenko.
