Ukrzaliznytsia Restored Service in Kyiv Region After Nighttime Russian Attack

Railway workers in the Kyiv region eliminated the consequences of nighttime strikes and fires and restored train service, despite alarms that continued during the work. This was reported by the chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Pertsvoskyi, who thanked the team for their promptness during the restoration.

Oleksandr Pertsvoskyi wrote this on his Facebook page. He noted that strikes in the Kyiv region caused fires and damage to railway infrastructure that had to be dealt with even between air-raid alerts.

"Thank you to the team for once again demonstrating clarity and promptness. We will certainly continue to recognize those involved in emergency restorations — the uninterrupted operation of the railway depends on this work!" wrote the chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia.

What happened during the night against 16 August

At night on 16 August, Russia launched a massive strike on Kyiv, Kremenchuk, and Kryvyi Rih. According to the Ukrainian Air Forces, Russia attacked Ukraine with Oniks and Iskander missiles and 106 Shahed-type attack drones. The main directions of the strike were Kyiv region, Poltava region, and Dnipropetrovsk region.

"Railway workers in the Kyiv region, between alarms, as soon as it was safe, eliminated the consequences of the nighttime strikes and fires and restored service," wrote Oleksandr Pertsvoskyi.

Continued to operate despite the massive attack

Kyiv region railway infrastructure has, more than once, been hit during massive shelling. Restoration brigades enter the damaged sections each time immediately after explosive ordnance technicians survey the area, in order to minimize train downtime.

Because of the consequences of the nighttime strike on 16 August, routes were adjusted in Kyiv itself — some circle suburban trains operated with changes due to damage to the network in the Pochaina area.

Attacks on Kyiv region railways occur regularly

Earlier, Informator reported that near a railway platform in the Kyiv region after a nighttime Russian attack on 5 August rescuers found deceased people. Then an enemy strike on logistics centers in Brovary district took lives, and the railway temporarily stopped train movements and station operations.

We also wrote that Russia is systematically targeting key nodes of Ukrzaliznytsia, trying to sow panic among passengers and complicate the carrier’s operations. Pertsvoskyi then explained that such strikes have become part of the enemy’s tactics against the country’s railway infrastructure.
