The SBU exposed a Russian agent who was preparing a series of terrorist attacks near administrative buildings in Odesa region

Counterintelligence officers of the Security Service prevented a series of terrorist attacks in the Odesa region. As a result of comprehensive measures, a Russian agent was detained in Izmail who, on the enemy’s orders, was preparing to blow up vehicles of the Defense Forces near administrative buildings of Ukrainian military and law enforcement agencies.

As the investigation established, the suspect is a 27-year-old resident of Zhytomyr region who came to the attention of Russian intelligence officers through Telegram channels advertising “easy earnings.”

After recruitment, the perpetrator arrived in the port city, where she rented an apartment and received instructions from the Russians on how to make three improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

For remote activation, the suspect equipped each bomb with mobile phones and electric detonators, and packed them with metal nuts to increase their lethal effect.

At the same time, the enemy accomplice conducted reconnaissance near defense offices in the city, and also took photo and video recordings of Defense Forces vehicles parked nearby.

Using this information, the occupiers could plan potential terrorist attacks and special information operations.

SBU officers exposed the hostile plot in time and detained the agent when she had prepared an IED disguised in a bag and was waiting for instructions from her handler about the location to plant the bomb.

During the search, mobile phones were seized from her, as well as two ready explosives and components for IEDs.

Investigators of the Security Service notified the suspect of suspicion under part 1 of article 14, part 2 of article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation to commit a terrorist act).

The perpetrator is held in custody without the right to bail. She faces up to 12 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Comprehensive measures were carried out under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
