A state registrar suspected of abusing authority involving 1 million extradited from Spain.

With the participation of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office, and in coordination with competent authorities of the Kingdom of Spain, a state registrar who had been evading investigation since 2022 year was extradited to Ukraine.

He is suspected of illegally re-registering an apartment that, after the owner's death, was to pass to the property of the Zaporizhzhia territorial community.

According to the investigation, in May 2021 year the registrar, acting with the aim of obtaining an improper benefit, used a forged court ruling and registered ownership of a three-room apartment in the name of a local resident.

The owner of the apartment died and had no descendants. By law, the property should have passed to the community as an escheat and replenish the city's housing stock.

Instead, the ownership of it was obtained by a woman who identified herself as the deceased's cohabitant.

As a result of these actions, the territorial community suffered nearly 1 million UAH in losses.

In September 2022 year, under the procedural guidance of the Dnipro District Prosecutor's Office of Zaporizhzhia, the state registrar was informed of suspicion in absentia under part 3 of article 365-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. After this, he was announced in the international wanted list.

10 August 2026 year, the suspect was handed over to the Ukrainian side at the Krakovets–Korchowa border checkpoint. 12 August, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention without a bond.

Under the procedural guidance of the Dnipro District Prosecutor's Office of Zaporizhzhia, pre-trial investigation is conducted by investigators of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Police.

Note: in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of a crime until proven guilty in a lawful procedure and by a court judgment.
