1 February, Monday, at 13:00 anti-corruption public organizations will announce the formation of a coalition to verify the declarations of officials and servants in order to cleanse state bodies of corrupt officials. The press conference will take place at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center at Khreshchatyk, 2 (Ukrainian House).
According to the results of a study conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology in coordination with Lake Research Partners and Karakoyun Strategies, in 2015 year the most effective anti-corruption activity was carried out by public organizations (NGOs) and mass media (MSM). Such indicators are related to the fact that, in the absence of action by law enforcement agencies and courts in the fight against corruption, public oversight and societal pressure have become the most effective tools for cleansing power of corrupt officials. Publishing asset declarations in accordance with the Law “On the Purification of Power” and opening registries of real estate, land, and vehicles played an important role in identifying corrupt officials, as they allow checking for signs of corruption in the asset declarations of officials and servants.
Understanding this, public organizations that have made monitoring and analysis of declarations of income, assets, expenditures, and financial obligations their priority for the 2016 year have decided to form a coalition to cleanse state bodies of corrupt officials. The coalition’s activities have received full support from the parliamentary anti-corruption committee, which, at the initiative of its Chair Yehor Soboliev, is to become a powerful platform for combating the corrupt officials identified by NGOs and the media.
The press conference and the ceremonial signing of the coalition memorandum will be attended by:
• Yehor Soboliev, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Prevention and Counteraction of Corruption;
• Oleksandra Drik, Chair of the Board of the NGO “Public Lustration Committee”;
• Oleksandr Lemenov, co-founder of the NGO “Center for Local Self-Government,” manager of the anti-corruption group of the Reanimation Package of Reforms;
• Oleksii Khmara, Executive Director of Transparency International Ukraine;
