Not Fedorov: Zelensky submitted a nominee for minister of defense to the Rada

President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted candidates for the posts of minister of defense and minister of foreign affairs to the Verkhovna Rada. This was reported by People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak. According to the submission, Yevhen Khmara was proposed to head the Ministry of Defense, and Andrii Sybiga for the MFA. "Tomorrow there will be votes on two ministers: Defense and Foreign Affairs," Zheleznyak said. Currently Khmara is serving as acting minister of defense, and Sybiga as head of the MFA. He also held this post in the government of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. At the same time, Khmara is a serviceman. Ukraine’s Law “On National Security of Ukraine” stipulates that the post of minister of defense must be held by a civilian. The president’s submission was confirmed by Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. According to him, parliament will consider the candidates shortly in accordance with the established procedure. “FACTY” remind that former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov said he is willing to work only as head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. According to him, no other state position gives sufficient powers to influence the course of the war and complete the reforms started. At the same time, earlier President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had offered Fedorov several options for further work in the government. According to the head of state, the last offer was the post of Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for Military Innovation. Zelensky also emphasized that he expects Fedorov to continue working in his team.
