Zelensky Sets Priorities for Preparing the Energy Sector for the Heating Season

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky listened to a briefing on the state of the energy system and identified the top-priority tasks in working with international partners ahead of the heating season. This is reported by Glavkom citing the head of state.

First Deputy Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal informed the president about the current state of the energy system and the work of energy workers who are daily eliminating the consequences of Russian strikes.

“Every day, processes are underway to restore electricity supplies for Ukrainian families after the shelling. The challenges are especially in the cities and villages of frontline and border regions with Russia. Importantly, the necessary equipment stocks have been formed,” Zelensky said.

Special attention during the briefing was given to preparation for the upcoming heating season. The Ukrainian authorities defined tasks for negotiations with international partners for August and September.

“We defined also the tasks for working with our partners in the near term: what political, financial, and purely technical agreements are needed now, in August, and also in September, before the start of the heating season. We are counting on the support of specific states. For security reasons, we are not disclosing details at the moment,” the president said.

Shmyhal also briefed Zelensky on the strategic prospects for the development of Ukraine’s nuclear sector. The parties discussed the priorities of Ukraine’s work in Europe.

In addition, during the meeting they discussed key social projects prepared for launch in the autumn in the energy ministry system. The president did not disclose details of these initiatives.

As a reminder, Russian occupiers in autumn and winter may continue to attack Ukrainian energy, military facilities, the defense-industrial complex, logistics, and gas stations. According to military intelligence, the list of main targets of Russian attacks has not significantly changed. The most vulnerable in the winter period remain the electric power industry and the heating system.
