Kuleba said that the possibility of negotiations with Russia was exhausted in July

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the possibility of negotiations with Russia had been exhausted a month ago. The reason is Donald Trump’s problems in Iran ahead of the congressional elections.

The former minister said this in an interview with journalist Galina Ostapovets of Novyny.LIVE.

Why the possibility of dialogue with the Russian Federation has been exhausted

According to Kuleba, the American side lost the moment for diplomatic pressure due to domestic political processes ahead of the elections.

“I believe that the negotiating opportunity had been exhausted a month ago because Trump had problems in Iran. The hypothesis was that he would currently need some external political victory,” said the former official.

He noted that in July, at the NATO summit in Turkey, there was a search for a model in which Trump could achieve a victory for himself in the war of Russia against Ukraine. However, everything then rolled back, and an example of this is the United States’ refusal to grant Ukraine licenses to produce missiles for Patriot air defense.

Kuleba noted that the announcement about the possible transfer of licenses was a shift in positions, and there were other signs about this from the Americans. Yet the moment has now been lost and everything has “gone quiet again.”

“And where will negotiations come from now? Putin is going to elections to the State Duma with warlike slogans. The intelligence data, already voiced by our president, say that after the elections Putin plans a concealed or open mobilization… But he is not the man who will say: “Oh, it got worse, let’s make some concessions.” Press him, break the situation, only victory, that’s their logic. So I don’t see where this story could come from,” said the former official.

In connection with this, the ex-minister explained that now Trump is entering the November elections, but there is no point in intensifying the negotiating process that will not yield results. Everyone will reproach him that he is “trying” and nothing comes out.

“It will be easier for him now to say: “Well, they both are discredited, both Ukraine and Russia.” He has said things like that before… “let them drink blood, and we’ll see.” So I don’t see where this story could come from. I mean slogans, calls, and meetings will happen. But one must always look at structural things, preconditions. These preconditions, these structural things simply do not exist right now,” summarized Kuleba.

As Novyny.LIVE reported, in this same interview Kuleba stated that Ukraine no longer needs revolutions. According to him, the renewal of the political system should come through the mechanism of elections.
