Thick White Smoke Rose Over Dzerzhinsk in Russia. Likely an Explosives Plant Was Hit

In the night on 19 August, drones struck Dzerzhinsk in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, the country’s aggressor, Russia. Above the city, thick white smoke is spreading. This was reported by the Russian publication Astra.

Also, according to the media, a residential building came under attack.

A Astra analysis indicated that the source of the large-scale smoke in Dzerzhinsk is likely on the territory of the Sverdlov plant named after Sverdlov. The plant is located in the western part of the city, about 5 km from the damaged apartment building.

“FKP ‘Plant named after Y. M. Sverdlov’ is a city-forming enterprise of Dzerzhinsk, part of Russia’s military-industrial complex. It is a strategically important defense-chemical plant, one of the largest producers of explosive substances in Russia with a history of more than 100 years,” the post states.

The publication recalled that the enterprise was added to Ukraine’s sanctions list for supporting the war, and also to the European Union sanctions list; in addition, the plant came under sanctions by the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Switzerland.

The Russian public ‘Radar of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast,’ which tracks drone movements, reported air danger for the region three times during the night.
