Fuel is Only at 28% of Gas Stations in Russia - Media

In Russia, a second wave of a large-scale fuel crisis is rapidly unfolding. As of 16 August, gasoline and diesel fuel were available at only 28% of stations included in the analytical service base "GdeBenz".

Just a week earlier this figure stood at 41%, but the situation sharply deteriorated in dozens of regions.

The greatest fuel shortages were recorded in the Volgograd, Chelyabinsk, Orenburg, Voronezh, Samara, Penza, Saratov, Lipetsk, Rostov regions and in Tatarstan.

During checks by Russian journalists at dozens of gas stations in Moscow and the Moscow region, it turned out that gasoline of brand 95 was available at only a quarter of stations, and at the inspected gas stations in the capital of the Russian Federation only two were operating normally with 10.

Russia's Energy Minister Sergei Cavilyov was forced to acknowledge the presence of multi-hour queues at gas stations, although he traditionally claims that the government is "actively working" to solve the problem.

Officially, authorities reported fuel shortages in at least 8 regions, and locals widely claim it in 13.

A key reason for the new phase of the crisis was the regular and effective strikes by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles on Russian oil refineries and oil depots.

The first wave of shortages lasted from late May to mid-July, accompanied by limits on selling fuel to a single buyer.

In August, after a series of new attacks on refineries, the situation with logistics and fuel production in the Russian Federation again became critical.

Complaints about gasoline shortages in Russia have led to arrests and fines.
