An individual entrepreneur from Drohobych bought one-third of Karpatnaftokhim for less than 1 million dollars, - media

Drohobych entrepreneur Andriy Vesely became the owner of a 33% share of the Karpatnaftokhim plant for only 35 million UAH.

Ukrainska Pravda cites that sum, referring to the financial statements of the investment fund Herion World, which belongs to Vesely.

Vesely, described in the investigation as a "little-known businessman," an individual entrepreneur from Drohobych with no experience in petrochemicals and no assets of similar scale, became a co-owner of Karpatnaftokhim in June 2024.

According to Herion World’s reporting data, at the same time the fund's assets increased by 35 million (from 20 million to 55 million) alongside a significant rise in liabilities (from 205 000 UAH to almost 40 million UAH), indicating the emergence of a new asset financed by debt.

Earlier, during a criminal proceeding, law enforcement valued the Karpatnaftokhim property complex at more than 2 billion UAH. Accordingly, its one-third could have been worth about 800 million UAH.

The investigation notes that the brother of the new Karpatnaftokhim co-owner, Vasyl Vesely, was previously "unexpectedly appointed advisor to the chair of the supervisory board of the nationalized Sense Bank," despite lacking banking experience. According to sources cited by Ukrainska Pravda, his appointment may have been arranged by the Office of the President.

Sources speaking to Ukrainska Pravda journalist Mykhailo Tkach in business circles believe that "the only seat of power that could have made all this possible [the situation with Karpatnaftokhim] could also be the Office of the President."

Despite journalists' inquiries, neither Vasyl Vesely nor Andriy Vesely provided comprehensive comments regarding the source of funds or the circumstances of acquiring the stake in Karpatnaftokhim.
