Letters of Shepelev to Yanukovych: How the former deputy moved from BYuT to PR

The INFORMATOR has obtained letters from former member of parliament Oleksandr Shepelev to the president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych. The documents were found at the Mezhyhirya residence among papers that Yanukovych’s security guards did not manage to destroy.

The letters were written in 2013 year. At that time Shepelev was abroad, after the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced him international wanted in January.

A year earlier, in 2012, two criminal cases were opened against the former deputy in Ukraine. Law enforcement agencies, in particular, accused him of embezzling funds of Rodovid Bank amounting to more than 220 million hryvnias, and of involvement in organizing the embezzlement of 315,3 million hryvnias – state funds allocated by the NBU for bank refinancing.

Shepelev writes to Yanukovych that he is “not opposed to objectively figuring out who withdrew money from Rodovid and through whom a hole appeared in the bank.” He asserts that the “hole” appeared even before recapitalization, and promises to aid the investigation into who and how it was concealed in the bank’s documents.

In the letters, Shepelev also mentions the “Firtash schemes” and his friendship with Yuriy Ivanyushchenko (the former deputy calls him “Yura Enak”).

INFORMATOR publishes the first fragment from the “letters of Shepelev to Yanukovych,” in which it discusses the reasons for the former deputy’s move from Oleh Timoshenko’s BYT bloc to the Party of Regions in 2010 year and his subsequent exit from the PR.

Shepelev claims that he wrote a request to join the PR faction after Yuriy Ivanyushchenko spoke with the president and he assured that the problem with Rodovid Bank would be resolved. Moreover, Andriy Kluev promised Shepelev that he would be included in the PR lists for the next election to the Verkhovna Rada.

Shepelev acknowledges that later he left the PR faction because he agreed to run in the next elections on BYuT’s lists. At the same time, the former deputy assures Yanukovych that “according to Kluyev and Geller (Yevheny Geller, – editor) my exit from the PR faction was coordinated with the president.”

In BYuT’s lists in 2012 year, Shepelev continues, he never made it, because Kluyev broke his word and twice voted for the “language law” with his deputy card.

“Neither money, nor positions, nor directions in business, I did not take for this (the move to the PR faction, – editor), there was an agreement that my Rodovid problems would be resolved,” he assures Yanukovych.

As a reminder, former member of parliament Oleksandr Shepelev was detained on the territory of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic.”
