After the explosion in Monaco investigators are checking 25 Ukrainians: new details of the Yermolaiev case

Ukrainian law enforcement is checking 25 individuals for involvement in organizing an attempt on Dnipro businessman Vadym Yermolaiev in Monaco. The court allowed obtaining information about their banking transactions and the IP addresses used to log into banking systems.

Regarding involvement in organizing an attempted contract killing of the well-known Dnipro businessman, a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus and the State of Israel, Vadym Yermolaiev (part 2 of art. 15, item 1, 5, 11 part 2 of art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), domestic law enforcement is checking 25 individuals, each of whom is assigned a domestic taxpayer registration number (formerly known as IPN). Information about this is contained in the materials of the court register.

They indicate: on 5 August 2026, judge Svitlana Shaputko of the Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv satisfied prosecutors’ motions to lift banking secrecy regarding the details of financial transactions on the card accounts of 25 Ukrainian residents and the IP addresses from which logins to their banking systems were made.

At the same time, the court granted permission to check employees of state bodies who over the past one and a half years had been “monitoring” Yermolaiev and his relatives in the Unified State Demographic Register of Ukraine and the ARKAN system.

Recall that on 29 June 2026 at 20:58 in Monaco a powerful explosion occurred near the residential building where Yermolaiev lived. As a result of the incident the businessman himself was injured (against whom in 2023 year a presidential decree of Ukraine imposed sanctions), as well as his companion Anna Nasobina and their 13-year-old son.

On 3 July Monaco’s Attorney General Stéphane Thibaut reported: the suspect in committing the brazen crime is a 39-year-old Ukrainian citizen, Anastasiia Berezovska.

As later established by law enforcement, in the days before the attempt the woman conducted surveillance of Yermolaiev for several days using concealment. She was identified, among other things, thanks to analysis of footage from surveillance cameras.

Ukrainian court materials state: at the time of official suspicion being lodged in Monaco and announcement of an international search, Berezovska had already managed to return to her homeland. On 1 July 2026 she crossed the border at the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint, and on the morning of 3 July she went to a meeting that was to take place in Kyiv.

Later domestic law enforcement officially reported: the same day two men eliminated the “bomber” with several close-range shots and then buried her body. Official suspicions in committing the mentioned crime were announced against former SBU employee Vitalii Zhykovych and current GUR Ministry of Defense officer Vladyslav Reut.

On 9 July 2026 the Pecherskyi District Court of the capital applied preventive measures in the form of pretrial detention without alternative for Reut and Zhykovych. Their testimonies differed as to who exactly was the direct killer and who gave the order to carry out the woman’s murder, and left many questions about the masterminds behind the attempt on Yermolaiev and the subsequent “clean-up” of Berezovska.

On 10 July those on Riznytska made a public appeal to Monaco law enforcement to create a joint investigative team to clarify the circumstances of the high-profile crimes. However, the principality was slow to cooperate with official Kyiv. According to Ukrainska Pravda, as of 3 August 2026 the competent authorities of Monaco had not responded to the proposal to create a JIT.

On 20 August 2026 the edition CNN published a fragment of an interview with Vadym Yermolaiev. He stated that he does not believe in the possibility of an official Ukrainian order to kill him. In the businessman’s opinion, the perpetrators of the attempt may have acted independently, motivated by financial reasons.

He suggested that his elimination could have been organized by private clients who involved people with experience conducting “delicate” operations. Yermolaiev called identifying who stood behind the attack the main open question.
