Who can get into the Kyiv City Council in the local elections: party lists

The local elections in Ukraine will take place on 25 October 2020 under the new electoral legislation. In cities with a population of more than 10 thousand, voters will be able to vote not only for a party but also for an individual candidate from that party.

Open party lists in the local elections

The upcoming local elections will be held in Ukraine under new rules. On 16 July 2020, parliament amended the Election Code of Ukraine. In the Kyiv vote this will affect Kyiv City Council voting — party lists will be open.

Each voter will see the surnames of those representatives of a political force who may end up receiving parliamentary mandates. In addition, there will be the option to support not only the party itself but also an individual candidate from it. To do this on the ballot you will need to write the number of that party representative.

If a candidate receives more than 25% of the party’s total result, they will move up the list. This, in turn, will increase their chances of getting into the Kyiv City Council.

Who UDAR is leading to the Kyiv City Council: the list

UDAR presented its list for the Kyiv City Council during a conference on 18 September. It was headed by the party leader and incumbent city mayor Vitali Klitschko. The second spot went to footballer Oleksandr Shovkovskyi, who announced his intention to run in the Kyiv elections with UDAR on 26 August.

"Servant of the People": list of candidates for Kyiv City Council

The Servant of the People party presented its list of candidates for the Kyiv City Council on 20 September. It was headed by Yevheniia Kuleba, the wife of Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba. Also included in the list was former health minister Zoryana Skaletska.

At a conference on 16 September, European Solidarity named the first spot on its list for the Kyiv City Council. It went to Marina Poroshenko, the wife of former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

Who will run for the Kyiv City Council from Batkivshchyna

Batkivshchyna held its conference on 21 September. As a result, Oleksii Kucherenco was officially nominated as the party’s candidate for Kyiv mayor. He also headed the party’s list for the Kyiv City Council.

Holos’s list in the Kyiv elections

The Holos party officially presented its list on 19 September during a conference of its Kyiv branch. However, a few days earlier former head of Ukraine’s State Customs Service Maksym Nefyodov announced that he would head the party’s list for the Kyiv City Council.
