Sanctioned owner of Ibox Bank Alyona Shevtsova defended a doctoral dissertation remotely in Ukraine

The owner of the liquidated Ibox Bank, Alyona Shevtsova, who is under SRB sanctions and wanted by the Economic Security Bureau, managed to defend a dissertation in Ukraine in philosophy.

This became known from the university “KROK” public records.

Shevtsova was declared wanted back in 2023 year. According to the investigation in case No.72023000500000071, shareholder of Ibox Bank Shevtsova (Degrik), together with the director of the e-commerce business department Iryna Tsyhanok and the head of the financial monitoring department Zoya Nesterovska, organized a criminal group. Since 2022 year they, together with others not yet identified, using controlled companies LLC Pay-Pay, LLC Polister, LLC Dzega, LLC Tsyhir, LLC Dastsan, LLC Rekna, LLC Kendvit, LLC Tsenting, LLC Spat Tre, LLC Mitar Stars, LLC Gamerton, LLC Uberwald, LLC Flavon Sport, LLC Amerton Constrakshn, LLC Eyking, LLC Skein Corp, LLC Zerenpay carried out online gambling without a license. The suspects conducted financial operations to launder the proceeds of these crimes, the total amount of which amounted to 4,81 billion hryvnias.

Shevtsova left Ukraine and went abroad. Sanctions by the National Security and Defense Council have been imposed on her. However, this did not prevent her from continuing her activities in Ukraine.

Thus, in February 2024 she in Kyiv defended a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field of knowledge 08 “Law” with a specialty of 081 “Law.”

The dissertation topic was “The Relationship of Right and Law in the Ukrainian Legal Tradition.” Interestingly, the defense took place online, meaning Shevtsova did not come to Ukraine. In helping the sanctioned individual obtain the academic degree were her academic supervisor — Deputy Dean of the Law Faculty at the Higher Education Institution “University of Economics and Law ‘KROK’” Viktoriia Korolova, Doctor of Laws Anatolii Yosypovych Frantsuz, reviewers Vitalii Bohdanovych Skomorovskyi and Oleksandr Mykolaiovych Bykov. Also acting as opponents were Taras Olehovych Didych, Professor of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and Yurii Viktorovych Hotsuliak, Professor of the Department of Theory, History of State and Law and Philosophy of Law of the Law Faculty of Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University.

The defense was successful, and Shevtsova was awarded the academic degree, about which a corresponding university order was issued on 22 February 2024 year.
