A well-known fugitive from Yanukovych's circle is trying to profit from changing Ukrainian legislation.

Representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office at night and in the morning 14 October are attempting to change the text of the draft law on the prosecutor's office No. 3541 before its vote in the Verkhovna Rada.

Activists and experts from the initiative "Reanimation Package of Reforms" (RPR) state this on their Facebook page.

"There is pressure on the parliamentary committee that prepared the bill for the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada," the post says. According to activists, "the General Prosecutor's Office is trying to change provisions about two independent bodies of prosecutor self-government apart from the leadership of the prosecutor's office—the Council of Prosecutors and the Qualification-Disciplinary Commission of Prosecutors." "These bodies would select prosecutors, appoint them to administrative positions, and review complaints about unlawful actions of prosecutors."

This self-government is not at all needed by the General Prosecutor's Office, since it takes away power from them, and thus financial streams," the RPR initiative notes. "How long will these nightly manipulations with texts of laws crucial for the country last? Is the president capable of stopping the conmen from the General Prosecutor's Office and adopting a truly democratic and European law?" they ask.

Activists call lawmakers to vote for the text of the bill that passed public consultations and not to introduce usurping amendments, the initiative "Ukrainian Pravda" reported.

Incidentally, the son of the former General Prosecutor Artem Pshonka disappeared from the country after the Euromaidan. Sanctions have been imposed against him in the West.
