What promises the people's deputies made for 2020 year

Traditionally, at the end of the year politicians not only sum up their work but also announce plans for the coming year.

“Slovo i Dilo” has already looked at which promises the new Verkhovna Rada managed to fulfill in 2019. Today we offer an overview of the plans and promises of the people's deputies for 2020 year.

On the day Dmytro Razumkov was elected speaker of the Verkhovna Rada (29 August) he outlined the parliament’s main areas of work, including launching a mechanism for clear economic growth in 2020 from 5 to 7%.

“Our goal is economic growth from 5 to 7% already in 2020. The task of parliament is to provide the economic foundation for our state’s economic breakthrough, adopt radical decisions to improve the investment climate of the state, protect property from monopolistic abuses,” he said.

Iryna Vereshchuk, a deputy from Servant of the People, promised that she would not vote for early local elections in April 2020.

“My position is as follows: I am in favor of on-time local elections; there is not much time left, and believe me, we have a lot of work ahead to prepare, hold them on time, and ensure they are conducted transparently, democratically, etc. Regarding the Steinmeier formula: I do not see any arguments today why we should hold elections in Donbas. We do not have security issues resolved, border closure…() And if we talk about elections in April, that is impossible. I will not vote for this decision in parliament,” Vereshchuk said.

In early October 2019, deputy Danylo Hetmantsev promised that in spring 2020 a draft law on tax amnesty would be presented.

A month later, OPZZh representative Nestor Shufrych, speaking from the Verkhovna Rada podium during parliamentary hearings on the safety of journalists, promised that such hearings would be held annually. “And we will do everything so that you have that possibility annually. See you in this hall in a year,” he assured.

Shufrych’s colleague from the faction, Vadim Rabinovich, already in August 2018 promised on one broadcast that after his party ‘For Life’ victory, the necessary amount of housing for displaced persons would be built within a year.

“In three months, I guarantee you—remember, write it down—I will bear personal responsibility for this. Moreover, if these four points are not fulfilled within three months, I will leave politics that very day. First—tariffs reduced threefold, second—pensions increased threefold, third—the minimum wage increased threefold… The fourth point—by the third month after our party’s victory—within a year we will build the necessary amount of housing for displaced persons,” Rabinovich said.

In the early parliamentary elections Rabinovich entered on the lists of the Opposition Bloc – For Life. In the three months of parliamentary work that had elapsed by early November, the OPZZh faction did not achieve tariff reductions or a threefold increase in pensions and the minimum wage. But by November 2020 the party still has time to push for construction of housing for displaced persons from Donbas.

Throughout 2020 several deputies must fulfill their pre-election promises regarding constituency development. Running for the Rada, Serhiy Rudyk promised that during 2019–2020 years he would ensure the construction of 10 new football fields with artificial turf, as well as the construction of 12 volleyball-basketball courts in Smila, Kamianka, and the largest villages of the district.

Majoritarian deputy from Servant of the People Dmytro Mykysha wrote in his program that he would push to make the major repair of the Merefa–Zmiiv road a priority for 2020 year.

In 2020, deputy Valeriy Zub is to introduce proposals to the state budget-2021 to allocate funds for kindergartens in Nizhyn.

Servant of the People deputy Oleksandr Tkachenko promised that the rental of a house on Trukhaniv Island would be reflected in the NACP declaration for 2019 year. “The place is wonderful, so this year my wife and I decided to rent a house there for the summer. We signed the lease for half a year back in May of this year. Therefore, the rental will be reflected in the declaration for the current year,” the deputy assured in October 2019.
