"Forrest Gump": the name "Vasya" on NABU and SAP tapes refers to Vasyl Astion — member of the Dnipro criminal group "Privat", son of oath‑betrayer General Mykola Astion

The people on the NABU and SAP tapes, which were released as part of the special operation "Forrest Gump," during a discussion about posting bail for former Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, used the name "Vasya," which may refer to businessman Vasyl Astion.

"We at Ukrainian Pravda already wrote in early June, in particular, that bail was to be posted for Galushchenko and that those funds were being collected. And we wrote then that businessman Vasyl Astion, who as we understand it is currently abroad, may be involved in posting the bail. According to our sources in business circles, he lives in Vienna. And we also hear it on the recordings now, although Mr. Astion, when we published this story in Ukrainian Pravda, denied it — he called me directly and said it was a mistake and that he was not involved in any way. Now the people on the tapes, as we hear, are talking about some Vasya, and judging by the voice we can assume that Mr. Astion himself is also on the tapes."

According to the journalist, a large number of businessmen, a current deputy, a former deputy, a deputy head of the President’s Office, some high‑ranking official of the President’s Office, and a state bank were involved in providing bail for one of the suspects in Operation Midas. "And it is obvious that all these people could not have carried out this task without a signal, without a request, and without a command from the state leadership," Tkach said.

Recall that Militia General Mykola Astion, formerly head of the Kyiv City Police Department, is a corrupt police official who for two decades worked not for the State of Ukraine but for an ethnic criminal group from the city of Dnipro (Dnipropetrovsk) with the code name "Privat," headed by Ihor Kolomoisky. His sons — Vasyl and Yevhen — are also members of this Dnipro criminal group, the very existence of which undermines the statehood of Ukraine.
