Zelensky awarded state honors to foreign leaders (photos)

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky presented state awards to foreign leaders who came to Kyiv on the occasion of the 35-th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence. This was reported by Hlavkom, citing the Office of the President.

Zelensky presented awards to the presidents of Estonia Alar Karis, Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, Moldova Maia Sandu, Finland Alexander Stubb; to the prime ministers of the United Kingdom Andy Burnham, Luxembourg Luc Frieden, Latvia Krišjānis Kariņš; and to the President of the European Council António Costa.

The president awarded the Order of Liberty to the leaders of Estonia, Lithuania, and Finland. The President of Moldova was awarded the Order of Princess Olga, 1st class. The Prime Minister of Luxembourg received the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, 2nd class, and the Prime Minister of Latvia received the Order "For Merits" 1st class.

The head of state awarded the Order of Europe to the President of the European Council.

For the first time, the President of Ukraine presented a new state distinction, “Gratitude of the Ukrainian People,” to the people of the United Kingdom. It was received by Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who arrived on his first foreign visit to Ukraine. With this distinction, the state will honor friends and partners who have helped the Ukrainian people from the very beginning.

As a reminder, on 24 August Ukraine celebrates the 35-th anniversary of the proclamation of Independence. Ceremonial events took place in Kyiv with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, representatives of state authorities, servicemen, and foreign guests.

As reported, on Ukraine’s Independence Day, 24 August, a meeting of the “coalition of the willing” took place in Kyiv with the participation of world leaders. NATO was represented by the Deputy Secretary General of the Alliance, Radmila Šekerinska.

In particular, on the occasion of Independence Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska took part in a prayer for Ukraine held at Saint Sophia’s Cathedral.

Incidentally, on the 35-th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, Ukrainians around the world joined the global campaign “Peaceful Sky — a Shared Responsibility,” calling for strengthened protection of Ukrainian airspace as an important component of the security of the democratic world.
