The actions of NABU on the eve of important negotiations involving the United States and the Russian Federation may be part of a systemic pressure on Ukrainian leadership. This was noted by political experts and public figures after anticorruption authorities conducted searches in the Office of the Prosecutor General literally a day before the talks of the American delegation in Moscow. According to experts’ estimates, there is a pattern in NABU’s actions: as soon as movement toward peace talks appears, the information space is filled with new corruption scandals, searches, or recordings. As a result, Ukraine’s positions weaken exactly at the moment when it is necessary to defend the state’s interests at the international level. Political scientist Vadym Denysenko believes that U.S. President Donald Trump has effectively lost the ability to pressure Moscow effectively, so the main pressure may be shifted to Kyiv. “Trump only has one option left — to pressure Ukraine. Therefore, we may soon see even more ‘scandals’ from NABU. Russia is showing Trump that it does not intend to make any concessions, and Trump himself does not have enough cards against it,” Denysenko said. He noted that due to the war in Iran and the closing of the Hormuz Strait, stopping Russian tankers could trigger a new rise in fuel prices in the United States. This would hit American voters hard and create additional political risks for the Republicans. “So the pressure on Ukraine remains. The Republican election game may boil down to the thesis that the United States supports Ukraine, but its allegedly corrupt leadership cannot cope with its tasks. It seems that in the near future we will see a new series of scandals,” the political scientist predicted. Natalia Liyachova, head of Detector Media, also drew attention to the timing of the NABU operation and the information accompanying the events. “What is happening on the eve of the announced visit of Vitkoff and Kushner is terrifying. NABU is sneaking into the Office of the Prosecutor General. Ukrainian Truth is again accidentally nearby. Then a UPG news item appears that searches are allegedly being conducted at the prosecutor general’s office. There is a clarification from the OPG, but there is no clarification from UCP about their information. I will refrain from commenting,” Liyachova wrote. Member of Parliament Oleksii Kucherenko stated that anticorruption bodies consciously chose the path of political confrontation instead of a consistent fight against corruption. “Absolutely nothing prevented NABU and SAP from consistently and professionally fighting corruption and jailing real criminals for the last ten years. However, the path of attacking the entire power structure was chosen — with the aim of seizing this power through external pressure,” Kucherenko said. Political expert Yurii Romanyenko also linked NABU’s activity with upcoming negotiations to end the war. “There will be a big hustle in the next few days. Zelensky will be brought down for peace. The NABU move to the OGP [Office of the Prosecutor General] is part of this opera. In the coming days there will be a lot of such,” Romanyenko noted. It is known that on the evening of 4 September NABU and SAP conducted investigative actions in the Office of the Prosecutor General. The operation took place on the eve of Steve Vitkoff and Jared Kushner’s visit to Moscow, where representatives of the U.S. president are to hold talks with Vladimir Putin. After Moscow, the American delegation plans to arrive in Kyiv for a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky. Because of this, Putin ordered not to strike Kyiv for three days.
