EU Commissioner Issues Sharp Statement After Russia’s Strike on SBU Building

European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius commented on the Russian strike on the building of the Security Service of Ukraine in central Kyiv. He stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has himself “returned the war to Russia,” and expressed confidence in Ukraine’s mirror response. This is reported by Hlavkom with reference to Kubilius’s post on the social network X.

According to the commissioner, escalation from the Kremlin side each time leads to corresponding actions by Ukraine. As an example, he cited Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries and problems with international air travel in the Russian Federation.

“Putin has returned the war to Russia: he aggravates the situation, and then the Ukrainians respond with mirror measures. This is how Putin destroyed most of Russia’s oil refineries, lost international flights, and now the KGB and GRU will wait for a Ukrainian drone to fly into their offices,” Kubilius wrote.

As a reminder, 4 in September Russian forces attacked the building of the Central Administration of the SBU in central Kyiv with a drone. The drone was directed at the office of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Oleksandr Poklad. He himself was not injured as a result of the attack.

After the strike, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that active steps in response are being prepared. According to him, the geography of the future response has already been determined, but the exact place and time were not disclosed by the head of state.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga described the strike on the SBU headquarters as a serious escalation and urged international partners to increase pressure on Russia.
