The High Anti-Corruption Court placed lawyer Dydych — relative of Chancellor Kropyva — in custody in the Carthage case

The High Anti-Corruption Court 8 September partially granted the detective’s motion and chose pretrial restraint in the form of detention for lawyer Oleksandr Dydych within the scope of operation “Carthage.” According to the investigation, Dydych was a trusted associate of Deputy Head of the Office of the Prosecutor General Serhii Kropyva, known on the NABU tapes as “Chancellor,” and his wife is Kropyva’s sister. The court set an alternative to detention — bail in the amount of 15 million hryvnias.

The decision of the investigative judge was reported by the Anti-Corruption Action Center on its Telegram channel. The decision was made by investigative judge Ihor Strohyi. If bail is posted, Dydych will be subject to a number of obligations, including:

surrendering passports for travel abroad;

refraining from communicating with certain persons, in particular Kravchenko;

wearing an electronic bracelet.

Dydych is suspected of two especially grave crimes — participation in a criminal organization and legalization (laundering) of assets. According to the investigation, the lawyer concealed Kropyva’s ownership of assets by re-registering them from Kropyva’s close associates to close associates of Kamrad Kutsyi, who also worked as Kropyva’s driver.

The circle of defendants in the case against the “Chancellor” is expanding

The lawyer’s detention became another episode of the investigation that NABU and SAP have called operation “Carthage.” The investigation is establishing ties between the head of a structural unit of the Office of the Prosecutor General and people in his circle who, according to the detectives, helped conceal wealth obtained from protecting fraudulent call centers.

Earlier, Informator reported that Deputy Head of the OPG Kropyva was placed in custody with the possibility of bail of 120 million hryvnias. The High Anti-Corruption Court made that decision 6 September, despite the SAP prosecutor demanding detention or bail of 200 million hryvnias, and despite NABU tapes in which Kropyva discussed renovations at Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko’s house. We also reported that the High Anti-Corruption Court placed Kropyva’s driver Serhii Kutsyi in custody with bail of 3 million hryvnias — the investigation believes he provided security for the official during trips and meetings and handed him money from persons connected to the call centers.
