Cargo Dissertation on Mono-Majority or Arahamia's Academic Ambitions on the Ruins of Parliamentary Turbo-Mode

The domestic political tradition, whereby every respectable leader simply must hang a Doctor of Philosophy diploma next to the boss’s portrait in the office, received a worthy continuation inside the walls of Shevchenko University. The head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, decided to enrich global political thought with a scholarly work about Ukraine’s single-party majority, seriously comparing the chaotic turbo mode to the centuries-old British parliamentarism. While the real one-party coalition creaks at the seams, unable to pass a single key vote without reinforcements from former pro-Russian deputies and held together by persuasion, the future PhD presents to the world a sterile abstraction where envelopes, backstage deals, and pressure from the Bank Office are modestly disguised as a solid “matrix of resilience.” In ZN.ua, this academic “breakthrough” of the ambitious “Servant of the People” was analyzed.

Academic degrees for those in power are like honey-smoothed. What is the point of this for them — for prestige, for the satisfaction of ambitions, or for increments to their “stubby” salaries? The head of administration under President Kuchma, Dmytro Tabachnyk, defended a doctoral dissertation based on a so-called collection of works — one can do this, but there must be a collection of actual academic works, not interviews or compilations of different authors that Tabachnyk recorded as monographs. Then there was Volodymyr Lytvin, who rose to Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and who was repeatedly caught on godless plagiarism. This list can continue and continue. The apex — Doctor of Economic Sciences, better known as “Professor” Yanukovych.

Of course, the news about the scientific ambitions of the head of the largest parliamentary faction prompted researchers to scrutinize his dissertation for plagiarism. But they did not find direct borrowings — after all, the scholarly work was probably written by a person who is not stupid and educated by the cited examples.
