Feldman and Boiko continue to work for the Russian-speaking audience

Elena Ivanovska, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, fined People’s Deputy Oleksandr Feldman and the head of the public association “Peace. Development. Stability” Roman Zahorodnyi for violations of language legislation. Each must pay 5,1 thousand hryvnias.

According to the Secretariat of the Language Ombudsman, in August the public movement “CHESNO” submitted two complaints concerning the distribution in Ukraine of paid advertising in Russian, connected with Members of Parliament.

In one case, there were targeted advertisement posts in Russian that Feldman spread from his page on the Meta platform. In the other case, Russian-language advertising that the public association “Peace. Development. Stability” spread on Meta platforms in favor of MP Yuriy Boyko, who is one of the participants in the organization.

As a result of state control measures, in both cases the violations of the Law of Ukraine “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language” were established.

Regarding Feldman and Zahorodnyi, protocols on administrative offenses were drawn up. Following the consideration of cases, Ivanovska issued orders to impose fines on each in the amount of 5100 hryvnias.

Legislation provides for the use of Ukrainian as the state language in the defined spheres of public life. At the same time, private communication in other languages by itself is not a violation of language law.
