Member of Parliament Honcharenko alleged a man was held unlawfully by Territorial Recruitment Center staff, but the military denies the accusations

Member of Parliament Oleksii Honcharenko said that at the 1 division of the Stryi district Territorial Recruitment Center and Support in Zhydachiv a man was allegedly held in a basement room for more than a week.

According to the deputy, the man is raising a 14-year-old child on his own, and his sister came to care for the child.

Honcharenko asserts that the man’s lawyer contacted him. The MP also released a video showing the person liable for military service being in a basement room.

At the same time, the Lviv regional Territorial Recruitment Center and Support denied the information about holding the man in a basement. The agency said that on 16 September he was brought to the Recruitment Center to clarify his military registration data, and the next day he refused to undergo the medical conscription commission. After administrative paperwork was completed, the man was handed a summons to undergo the medical conscription commission on 28 September, after which he left the Recruitment Center’s premises and returned home.

The Recruitment Center also noted that the man did not provide documents proving he is a father who single-handedly raises a 14-year-old child and therefore has the right to a deferral on that ground.

The basement room shown in the video circulated by Honcharenko was called a shelter by the Recruitment Center. According to their version, the man was there during an air raid alert, and the room itself is not used for holding persons liable for military service. The agency also denied confiscating his phone or applying physical or psychological pressure.
