A Minute of Silence in Kyiv: “All Red” Mode Implemented at 73 More Traffic Lights (list)

The capital has increased the number of streets where the “All Red” traffic light mode is activated during the nationwide minute of silence for those killed as a result of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. This was reported by Kostyantyn Usov, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration for the exercise of self-governing powers, as reported by “Glavcom.”

In particular, in the second phase the “All Red” mode was introduced at an additional 73 traffic light locations on Lesya Ukrayinka Boulevard; Beresteiskyi and Povitria Syl avenues (from Vyacheslav Chornovil Street to Solomianska Square and from Solomianska Square to Nova Street); and on Yevhen Konovalets, Zhylianska, Sviatoslav Khorobryi, and Metropolitan Vasyl Lypkivskyi streets. The mode has also been extended to the end of Taras Shevchenko Boulevard and Velyka Vasylkivska Street.

The Kyiv City State Administration emphasizes that the “All Red” mode is not applied during an air raid alert—during that time traffic lights operate on their normal cycles. The restriction also does not apply to emergency vehicles and operational services carrying out tasks with lights and sirens on.

Earlier the mode was introduced at 18 traffic light locations in the central part of the city. In particular, at Ukrainian Heroes Square, European Square, Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, Bessarabsky Passage, and on Khreshchatyk, Baseina, Velyka Vasylkivska, Yevhen Chykalenko, Volodymyrska, and Prorizna streets.

Incidentally, “Glavcom” recorded on different days how traffic is stopped in the city center—on Khreshchatyk near TSUM and at Maidan Nezalezhnosti. The decision on a “Red Kyiv” was developed following a protocol instruction from Mayor Vitali Klitschko after appeals from Kyiv City Council deputies who are currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Kostyantyn Usov explained, the decision aims to make the minute of silence visible in the capital and turn it into a daily tradition of remembrance.

Reminders about the minute of silence via loudspeaker systems on Khreshchatyk and at Maidan Nezalezhnosti, at 19 metro stations, and on surface public transport were introduced back in 2025. And since 13 April 2026, a brief announcement about the start of the minute of silence daily at 9:00 has also been broadcast through the city’s public address system where technically possible—in that period more than 400 alert points were engaged.
