The EU Council approved paying Ukraine almost EUR 3 billion for successful reforms

The decision of the Council of the European Union (EU) to pay Ukraine almost EUR3 billion under the Ukraine Facility ("Support for Ukraine through the Plan for Ukraine") reflects progress in carrying out reforms: 84 of 95 measures provided for in the plan have already been completed, said Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko.

"Under the 'Support Mechanism for Ukraine,' Ukraine will be granted EUR 3 billion in assistance from the EU following today’s approval by the EU Council. This decision demonstrates progress in implementing reforms: 84 of 95 measures set out in the Plan for Ukraine have already been completed," he wrote on the social network X on Thursday.

As reported, the EU Council 24 September announced approval of a payment to Ukraine of almost EUR3 billion under the Ukraine Facility; Norway joined Kyiv’s financing with NOK1 billion ($105,2 million) in the form of non-repayable assistance.

"We are grateful to the EU for steady and predictable financial support," the finance minister emphasized in his post on X.

For her part, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova commented positively on the reforms in Ukraine in the context of the EU Council’s decision. "The reforms implemented under the program for Ukraine led to today’s approval of a tranche of EUR 3 billion," she wrote on the social network X.

"European support for Ukraine continues," Mathernova added.
