SBU Foils Kremlin Plans to Bring Terror to Ukrainian Cities, Expert Says

Photos: SBU Russian special services do not abandon attempts to carry out terrorist acts in Ukraine as part of campaigns personally sanctioned by Putin, but the SBU systematically foils all of the enemy's plans. Since 2022, the SBU has exposed 150 agent networks, which included 648 individuals. Another confirmation of the Service's successful work is the detention of two repeat offenders who were planning a series of explosions in downtown Kyiv using grenades, improvised explosive devices, and even an RPG. This is stated in a blog by political scientist Oleksiy Kurpas.

“Russia is trying to turn Ukrainian cities into platforms for terror. The foe recruits criminals to attack regime facilities in central Kyiv, aiming to destabilize the situation inside the country, sow fear and provoke social tension, but the SBU's counterintelligence is successfully countering this,” Kurpas notes.

Thus, according to the expert, the Russian leadership is trying to sell the population at least some ‘achievements of the special military operation,’ without having real military results on the battlefield.

Separately, Kurpas emphasized the effective work of Ukrainian counterintelligence. He noted that today the SBU, led by Oleksandr Poklad, pays particular attention to exposing agent networks and countering special operations by Russian security services.

“Society often learns about a successfully prevented terror only from a short SBU report. There is no explosion, no deaths, no terrifying footage in the news. And therefore there is no resonance that would accompany a tragedy. Although its absence is in fact the main result of the work of the security services,” the expert noted.

According to him, today the war is fought not only for territory but also for the resilience of Ukrainian society. On this front, every prevented sabotage is not a small victory but a genuinely real one, Kurpas summed up.
