SBU foils Kremlin plans to bring terror to Ukrainian cities, expert says

Russian special services do not abandon attempts to carry out terrorist acts in Ukraine as part of campaigns personally sanctioned by Putin, but the SBU systematically frustrates all of the enemy’s plans. Since 2022, the SBU has exposed 150 agent networks, which included 648 individuals. Another confirmation of the Service’s successful work was the detention of two repeat offenders who were preparing a series of explosions in the center of Kyiv using grenades, improvised explosive devices, and even a grenade launcher. This is stated in a blog by political analyst Oleksiy Kurpas.

“Russia is trying to turn Ukrainian cities into platforms for terror. The enemy recruits criminals to attack regime objects in the center of Kyiv, seeking to destabilize the situation inside the country, sow fear, and provoke public tension, but the SBU’s counterintelligence is successfully countering this,” Kurpas notes.

Thus, according to the expert, the Russian leadership is trying to sell the population some kind of “achievements of the special military operation,” without having real military results on the battlefield.

Separately, Kurpas emphasized the effective work of Ukrainian counterintelligence. He noted that today the SBU, under the leadership of Oleksandr Poklad, pays special attention to exposing agent networks and countering Russian special services’ operations.

“Society often learns about a successfully prevented terrorist act only from a brief SBU report. There is no explosion, no casualties, no terrible footage in the news. And therefore there is also no resonance that would accompany a tragedy. Although its absence is precisely the main result of the security service’s work,” the expert noted.

According to him, today the war is fought not only for territory but also for the resilience of Ukrainian society. On this front, every forewarned sabotage is not a small victory, but a truly real one, Kurpas summed up.
