Person information
Restaurateur from Horlivka who built a business in Sevastopol and stayed there after the occupation
Born on January 22, 1973, in Horlivka, Donetsk region. Known as the owner of a restaurant chain in Sevastopol — including establishments "Peremoha" and "Bekas." Later founded the restaurant group BRG, operating in the Ukrainian market.
Franchise scandal and court case
In 2006, Hakalo registered the trademark "Varenychnaya 'Pobeda'" and transferred rights to the company "Drevniy Khersones." In 2012, six "Varenychnaya 'Katyusha'" restaurants opened in Kyiv under the franchise using this trademark without his knowledge or consent. Hakalo filed a lawsuit and won: the Commercial Court of Kyiv prohibited the use of the name; the establishments' owner paid a fine and remodeled the interior.
After the annexation of Crimea, Hakalo did not abandon his business in Sevastopol — he re-registered it under Russian law and, despite European sanctions, opened a "Russian-Italian company" producing cheese. He is also characterized as a "raider" who attempted to evict children from the youth sports school and build a high-rise in the city's historic center.
