Military Prosecutor — Governor of Sumy Region

Roman Hryshchenko is an officer and lawyer whose public career included a brief governorship and full participation in combat operations. He was born on January 17, 1982, in Katerynka village, Mykolaiv region. In 2005, he graduated from the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law Academy. From 2005 to 2019, he served as an investigator and prosecutor in the military prosecutor's offices of the Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Kryvyi Rih, Kyiv, and Kharkiv garrisons.

Eight months in Sumy Region — and a quiet departure

From March 11 to November 5, 2020, he was the head of the Sumy Regional State Administration. His governorship lasted less than a year and was mostly remembered for a scandal. In spring 2020, Hryshchenko violated strict quarantine rules by holding a meeting with small business representatives without a mask. After the event, his team actively deleted photos from the meeting and tried to prevent the publication of evidence of the violation. The attempt to hide evidence received more attention than the violation itself.

War and awards

From March 2022 to July 2023, he served as commander of the 127th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of Ukraine. He was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky III degree (2022) and the Medal "For Impeccable Service" III degree (2014).
