He began his career in jurisprudence, obtaining his attorney's certificate in 2011 in Kyiv. However, Hudenko gained the greatest recognition in narrow business circles as a high-class corporate lawyer specializing in support and legal protection of large capitals and industrial assets. Independent media investigations note that before moving into the catering business, Hudenko served companies within the orbit of influential pro-Russian oligarchs — in particular, acting as a lawyer for Ukragro NPK PJSC of Dmytro Firtash and Westincombank JSC of Yuriy Ivanyushchenko (known as "Yura Yenakiyevsky").

In the context of investigations around the corruption schemes of Pontem.UA, Valeriy Hudenko figures as the main operational person signing multi-million contracts and coordinating the firm's participation in public tenders. Besides scandals involving the supply of poor-quality meals to schools, his name fell under criticism due to the high-profile failure in a tender by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. In the summer of 2023, Pontem.UA attempted to enter the Armed Forces catering market with a contract worth nearly 1 billion hryvnias.
