Owner of “Nash Kray” and SPAR
Viktor Ivanovych Korsak — Chairman of the Board of Directors of VolWest Group, owner of the supermarket chains “Nash Kray” and SPAR, Doctor of Economics. He is a medic by first education — graduated from Ternopil Medical Institute, taught and worked as a surgeon for several years, but a meager salary forced him to go into business.
Father's legacy and first money from a storm
His father, Ivan Korsak, was a journalist and writer, elected three times to the Volyn Regional Council, founded the company VolWest, which grew into a holding. Viktor earned his first significant money in 1996: after a storm in one of the districts of Volyn, he began clearing fallen trees, keeping the timber for himself.
Debt to Raiffeisen and court case
In 2011, Raiffeisen Bank Aval granted Korsak a loan of 60 million UAH for the development of “Nash Kray.” He was slow to repay the money. The bank filed a lawsuit and won in the first instance. Korsak appealed but did not appear at the hearing. The appellate court upheld the decision — Korsak was forced to pay.
Accusations of selling goods from Russia
The media characterized Korsak as a “retailer who, in the fifth year of the war, still sells Russian goods” and as an employer who pays “pennies.” Korsak himself did not publicly deny these accusations.
Holding and media
VolWest Group unites “Nash Kray,” SPAR, SMART Logistics, “Techno Modul,” “Adrenaline City,” Shatsk Dairy Plant, the newspaper and radio station “Family and Home” — altogether about 5,000 employees. The structure of media assets allows the holding to shape its own information agenda in Volyn.
