Chief Military Prosecutor
Anatoliy Vasylovych Matios — Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine (2014–2019), Reserve Colonel General of Justice, younger brother of writer and Member of Parliament Mariya Matios. Worked in the Presidential Administration under Yanukovych (2011–2014).
Hidden Five “Absentee” Years in Biography
Bihus.Info found out that Matios officially did not clarify that from 1992 to 1997 he studied law part-time, led journalists to the university for filming a complimentary film about himself, while concealing this fact. The Prosecutor General’s Office responded that there are no records of Matios’s employment during this five-year period — exactly what he was engaged in remains unknown.
Classified Ilovaisk Case and Dividend-Earning Wife
Under Matios’s leadership, the military prosecutor’s office investigated the Ilovaisk tragedy, but the prosecutor himself stated that the case would be "classified." He declared a salary of 410,000 UAH, a collection of elite gold watches, and millions in dividends from his entrepreneur wife, Iryna Barakh.
Dismissing an Investigator and an “Army” of New Lawyers in One Day
In 2018, one of the military prosecutor’s office staff was forced to write a resignation letter voluntarily. Journalists documented the unlawful promotion to the military rank of Colonel General of Justice of subordinate Zherbytsky and the appointment of Kulyk—who was, for the first time in history, accused of illegal enrichment—to a position. On September 2, 2019, Prosecutor General Ryaboshapka dismissed Matios; on May 15, 2020, he, together with several former subordinates from the military prosecutor’s office, received lawyer’s certificates all on the same day.
