Maidan Commandant, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Hero of Ukraine — killed by gunfire in Lviv in 2025

From 1991 to 1994 — one of the founders of the Social-National Party of Ukraine (later "Svoboda"), which he left after its ideological reorientation. Since 2004 — "Our Ukraine". Member of Parliament of the VII and VIII convocations; Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (2014–2015); Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (April 2016 — August 2019). Commandant of Euromaidan (November 2013 — February 2014). Since 2022 — fighter in the 206th Territorial Defense Battalion of Kyiv.

DBR case for obstruction of elections, Nazi past

In 2020, the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR), by court decision, opened a case against Parubiy for obstructing the electoral process during his speakership; later, the court closed the case. In 2018, the Pechersk Court obliged the General Prosecutor's Office to initiate an investigation into statements that could incite interreligious hostility. Critics accused Parubiy of founding ties with the Social-National Party of Ukraine; he repeatedly publicly distanced himself from right-wing extremism. On August 30, 2025, an unknown person fired seven shots at him in Lviv — Parubiy died. The motives for the murder and suspects have not been publicly announced. In October 2025, Zelensky posthumously awarded him the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the State.
